Elizabeth was nearing 104 when I photographed her. She had warm eyes, seemed remarkably youthful for her age and was a most pleasant subject. I heard beforehand that she was eagerly looking forward to having her portrait made.
On arrival I shook hands with her; she held on lightly to my hand and looked into my eyes. I told her then that I was going to place her portrait on a wall in a big prestigious art gallery, which seemed to delight her (I kept that promise soon after). An impressive lady and a very touching meeting.
